May I ask if the babies chest was plucked and also which parent was which species? It really is quite a nice cross.

Hi bubbles,
The breeder tells me that it was a complete unintentional accident, the parents were apparently a "Tassie Eastern Rosella" (I'm not sure what they look like) and a Kakariki which I am quite familiar with, the babies look a little scruffy now but he says they will colour up nicely in 9-10 months of age, may be how Easterns mature as Kakas look good as soon as they leave the nest.
I'll see if I can convice Danny to do a writeup on the forum.

::)WELL ABOUT THIS ILLICIT UNION .A PAIR OF KAKS CIN WERE ADDED TO AN AVIARY CONTAINING AREALLY QUIET PR OFF TASMANIAN EASTERN ROSELLAS,THE AVIARY BEING SOME 3MTRES LONG X 2 MTRE A LOG FOR THE ROSELLAS AND A BOX FOR KAKS IN NO TIME AT ALL EVERBODY SEEMED HAPPY AND NATURE TOOK ITS COURSE,WE ASSUMED NOTHING ODD ,BOTH SETTING S DULY HATCHEDTHE ROSELLAS 6 YNG THE KAK 2 YNG,UNFORTUNATELY WE HAD A REALLY HOT SPELL AND THE ROSELLAS WERE ALL LOST PROMPTING THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE "KAK" CHICKS AS WE SOON DISCOVERED EVERYTHING WAS NOT QUITE RIGHT OR LEFT FOR THAT MATTER, AND THE RESULT IS AS YOU SEE IN THE PICS, I WILL MAKE A DECISION ON 20/7/07 ON WETHER AND FOR HOW MUCH WE SHALL SELLL ONE OFF THEM, I MUST SAY THAT THIS MATING IS A TOTALLY ILLICIT UNION, DAN

Thank you for the explanation Dan, birdsale.com.au has certainly received a fair amount of hits in the last couple of days since I posted those photos.
I can tell you there are a lot of curious parrot lovers out there.
